In Tajikistan, national and state holidays are accompanied by spectacular and cheerful folk festivals. Usually these are weekends. They are allocated from two days to a week.

December 31-January 1, New Year

New Year in Tajikistan is a long-awaited, beloved holiday that comes to every home. City streets and houses are decorated with Christmas trees, garlands, lanterns and other attributes of the holiday.

Citizens celebrate the holiday in a big way and fun. The festive atmosphere is enhanced by New Year’s fairs, festive concerts and magnificent fireworks in the capital, where they usually decorate the largest Christmas tree in the country, on Dusti Square. Residents of Tajikistan try to spend the New Year holidays at beautifully laid tables, to please friends, relatives and friends with attention and gifts.

February 23, Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan

In 1993, for the first time since Tajikistan gained independence, a parade of the armed forces took place in Dushanbe, which today includes ground forces, air forces and air defense.

March 21-24, Navruz

The celebration of Navruz in Tajikistan is an incredible sight in its beauty.

On these holidays, spring finally comes to the ancient Tajik land and shows all its splendor. The gentle sun warms the mountain peaks, snowdrops appear – the main harbingers of the holiday. Traditionally, they are handed out by children as a symbol of the beginning of spring.

Navruz is widely celebrated: festive performances and concerts are held in the cities on this day, and horse races, sports competitions, cockfights, buzkashi, as well as flying pigeons and kites are held in the villages.

May 1, International Workers’ Day

In Tajikistan, this is a working day. However, festivities, performances by artists and all kinds of fairs are organized everywhere, which create a feeling of a universal holiday.

May 9, Victory Day

For the Tajik people, who lost more than 300 thousand soldiers in the Great Patriotic War, May 9 is a sacred date. War veterans are honored all over the republic these days. In all military units, parks, squares, traditional meetings with war veterans, concerts, feasts are held. Every year, in Victory Park, the president himself congratulates veterans at a solemn event.

Date changes annually, Holiday Eid Ramazon

This holiday marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, after the end of a long fast, during which believers refused to eat and drink during the daytime. The holiday of Eid al-Fitr is not just an opportunity to break the fast, but also an updated, after spiritual purification, perception of the world and being.

Go Ramazon – a holiday of peace and goodness. On this day, men gather early in the morning in the mosque for a festive prayer and visit the graves of the dead.

June 27, National Reconciliation/Unity Day

In 1998, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, signed a decree declaring March 27 the Day of National Reconciliation and a day off. Celebrations and promotions take place all over the country on this day.

Date changes annually, Idi Kurbon Holiday

One of the most revered religious holidays for all Muslims. It is celebrated 70 days after the end of the month of Ramadan. In scripture there is a legend about the origins of this holiday. It tells how Allah did not allow the devout Muslim Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail by placing a ram on the sacrificial altar. Since then, it has been customary to sacrifice animals as a symbol of faith in the omnipotence and mercy of the Almighty.

On the holiday of Idi Kurbon, believers put on new elegant clothes, visit a mosque, slaughter a sacrificial lamb or calf. The meat is divided into three parts. One is distributed to the poor, the second to relatives, and a festive treat is prepared from the third. These days the doors of the houses are open for guests and fun reigns everywhere.

September 9, Independence Day

Celebrations on the occasion of the Independence Day of Tajikistan are held in the state complex “Kokhi Borbad”, in the parks “Aini”, “Friendship of Peoples”, on the square “800th Anniversary of Moscow”, in the capital’s Amphitheater. The festive concert program includes performances by the best creative teams of the republic and outstanding stage and theater artists. A festive atmosphere is also present in family feasts.

November 6, Constitution Day of Tajikistan

Constitution Day of the Republic of Tajikistan (Taj. Ruzi Konstitutsiyai (Sarkonuni) Jumhurii Tojikiston) is one of the main national holidays of the Republic of Tajikistan. This date is celebrated in Tajikistan annually on November 6th.

The Constitution of Tajikistan was adopted on November 6, 1994 through a popular referendum. Constitution Day is very important for the people of the Republic and is widely celebrated throughout the country.

On this day, the President of the country addresses congratulations to all residents of Tajikistan, the flag of the Republic is raised and various political events are held.
